"We must draw strength from each other. Life can be fucked up. most of us have the added burden of the WT$ conditioning to deal with. But once we overcome the dark cloud that WT teaching drapes over us, there is a beautiful world out there to explore. Yeah we may be getting a late jump on the real life, But at least we are not asleep in someone else dream."

another life gone
by darth frosty inthis past thurs a young brother ended his life.
in writing he stated that he could not live up to the demands placed on him.
i am quite sure that all the local witnesses will hear about this and think what they are programed to think: we need the new system.

Can you admit that you "used to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses"?
by undercover ini was reading about minimus' trip to the hospital and his telling them that he "used to be a jw" but he would take blood now if needed.. it got me to thinking; i don't like telling people that i used to be a jw.
that's in my past and i prefer to keep it there.
if asked about my upbringing or religious preference, i usually just comment on being brought up in a strict religion but i got over it..and then try to change the subject.

Mouthy,
You seriously rock - on the back of the beast!
I find it liberating to come out - sometimes - the only way to explain the inadequacy to connect - explain "autism" experienced by me and "outsiders" - only, though, when I assess the other to possess some ability to understand. In the secular Netherlands people wil feel nothing but pity for you. Or, hey, whatever you want to believe is ok with me. No questions asked. But I feel less ashamed mentioning it compared to when I was a jaydoubleyougobbledygook. Any shrink who does not understand is an inadequate shrink. They all recognize the mechanisms. Makes you feel more stupid, yes. No more or less than anyone else.

What keeps you from killing yourself?
by AlmostAtheist inevery once in a while, the whole "futility of life" thing washes over me and something inside of me mentions the suicide option.
not that it's ever seriously considered, but one of the low-level accounting-types in my head quietly sends around a "worst-case scenario" memo that everyone reads, then dismisses.. after all, things always perk up.
"but," reminds the pessimistic little guy that should've been fired years ago, "they always go back down, too.

Search in hope of family, in the broadest and most drawn out possible sense of the word.
If resurrection from spiritual death makes suicidal, then there’s just got to be more to spiritual life. Perhaps it would not make sense to end life for not having lived.
I’ll try to remember that myself now.

I'd love to hear from anyone who grew up in the truth and is gay
by PaulMarshall inhi.. i have decided to join this site and hopefully connect with some people who will know what my story has been.
i guess it is best to read my profile, but the upshot of this new found technology is that i am no longer alone in my isolation.
i can hopefully reach out and connect with people who really understand what it is like in my head!

Robdar,
:“Van Gogh is my favorite artist. When in Amsterdam, I have sometimes waited in line a couple of hours just to get into the museum--it is so worth it. Are you an artist also?”
No, though I have dabbled somewhat in attempting the application of paint to canvas. Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters also, just like many in the rich cultural heritage of a country currently facing an identity crisis.
When you are in Ams next time, don’t forget to let me buy you a drink.

unbeliever:
Perhaps deep trust can take on another meaning beyond the age of 25; beyond having “deeply trusted” a couple of times already. You might have noticed that this issue comes into play when people have been disappointed once too often; at an age when we might feel left behind, alone, without the advantage of age or external beauty to ever remedy the way we envisaged it.
Deep trust then takes on the meaning of lasting commitment. True love never just falls out of the sky. This kind of commitment could not be ownership.

(((purps))):
” That knowing each other has added to our lives, we are great friends and the companionship expands out lives. At the end of a lousy day, a wonderful day, we can lay down together and sleep knowing that what is most precious is with us.”
That is the valuable lesson IMO. (edited to say: most movies aren't made about this post-romantic stage; perhaps we should watch less movies and move on in real life)
(((peg))):
You not alone as far as your circumstances are concerned. Please take heart; aarque’s experience shows that there are lot’s out there in the same position – who shy back – but who have learnt the essence of caring and loving. That’s the upside of the progressed state as far as age and experience is concerned. It is a matter of seeking such ones out.

Come on now guys - give her a break. Besides, I'm a self-professed mortal - I don't qualify.
(though we could invoke her intercession on match-making matters...)
